Former Australian Cricket Coach Returns to Alma Mater

John Buchanan, well known and respected elite coach and a senior figure in Australian and international cricket, has joined the School of Human Movement Studies as Adjunct Associate Professor.

John has been at the forefront of sport science, coaching and elite athlete development in Australia for the past 20 years. He graduated from UQ with a degree in Human Movement Studies in 1976 and on 19 July, 2006 he was (pictured) awarded the degree of Doctor of the University honoris causa in recognition of his distinguished career and his contribution to the development of sport in Queensland and Australia.

John's appointment will provide vital links with elite sports development through his association with cricket and elite coaches. He is particularly keen to foster and develop the relationship between universities and sporting bodies.

It is anticipated that he will be involved in advice to research higher degree students working in the sports science area, attend key School Alumni functions and external partner events, provide occasional lectures on coaching and athlete development, and act as a professional advocate for the University.
