Community and Professional Services
The School has a major commitment to providing service both to the community, its graduates and to the major professional bodies relevant to human movement studies.
The Sport and Exercise Psychology Service offers members of the public the opportunity to participate in sessions to assist either individuals or teams to improve their performance or stay healthy in their chosen activity, whether it be sporting or other performing professions (e.g. performing artists, managers and decision makers in white collar management).
The School Visits Program offers an educational opportunity for secondary students to apply their learning in Senior Physical Education (focus areas A and B). Students will enjoy hands-on involvement in the science supporting Australia's elite athletes using advanced equipment located in the School of Human Movement Studies. They will complete a variety of authentic tasks throughout their visit and learning experiences can be integrated to your chosen physical activity.
The School of Human Movement Studies and UQSPORT have recently combined our resources to providing the public with assess to the teaching and research knowledge of the School of Human Movement Studies with the facilities and program delivery skills of UQSPORT, creating a better lifestyle for the public and providing greater opportunities and promote excellence through sport and recreation.
The School is aligned with the UQ Rugby Academy. Programs are supported by the scientific and research expertise of HMS staff to ensure that the Academy is driven from a solid and current research base.
Since its inception as the Department of Human Movement Studies in 1941, over 2,000 students have graduated with qualifications in Human Movement Studies. HMS Alumni endeavors to strengthen ties between our School and its graduates. Its goal is to have active alumni that can assist graduates and the School to remain at the forefront of professional practice and to generate mutual support.
The School of Human Movement Studies has a Mobile Exercise Science Laboratory that is available to visit schools and community organisations. The van is equipped with specialist equipment used by Human Movement specialists.
The International Visits program offers groups and individuals from other countries tailored programs to suit their educational or exercise requirements.
