Strength and Conditioning

Overview

Strength and Conditioning is a developing discipline that offers a challenging and rewarding profession which seeks to enhance athletic performance. The focus of the Strength and Conditioning programs is the development of advanced and applied skills essential for developing successful high performance athletes. Graduates of the program in strength and conditioning will have professional qualifications suitable for employment in sports institutes, professional sports associations, and schools.

Why Study Strength and Conditioning at UQ?

There is high demand for innovative and well educated professionals in strength and conditioning in all sectors of sport. The online delivery of the Strength and Conditioning Program provides a flexible study opportunity to cater for the busy lives of practicing coaches and strength and conditioning professionals.

The Postgraduate Program in Strength and Conditioning is a joint venture between the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), the University of Edinburgh and the School of Human Movement Studies at The University of Queensland. Expert academics, researchers and elite coaches have combined to develop relevant courses that integrate theory, research and coaching practice.

The authentic experiential learning approach connects learning to current coaching practice and contexts with a focus on developing the coach-athlete performance relationship.

The strength and conditioning major is available at Graduate Certificate level. Students able to articulate from the Graduate Certificate to either the Graduate Diploma or Master of Sports Coaching.

Entry Requirements

To enter the program, students hold an approved degree; or satisfy the executive dean that, based on the student's post-secondary study and work experience, the student is suitably qualified for admission.

All applicants should have a minimum of 5 years strength and conditioning or coaching experience prior to enrolling.

Strength and Conditioning on Line

The UQ Strength and Conditioning and Sports Coaching programs are unique in that the entire program is offered on line. Students have the flexibility to study and where at any time due to the flexibility of the on line resources and ability to contact teaching staff.
