HMS Profiles

Brent Raiteri

Current 3rd year student of Exercise Science

"Shortly after commencing a Bachelor  in Human Movement Studies (Exercise Science) at UQ in 2008, I knew I had made the right choice. The abundance of facilities, supportive and friendly tutors and lecturers, great people to work with, and high expectations and standards, helped me to go the extra mile.

I chose UQ as it is known for its excellence in both the Health and Science areas and because of its exceptional reputation among employers.

The amazing friendships I have formed with fellow students (and even some tutors) represent the most memorable experiences of my time here so far."

Jennifer Folling

Current 4th year honours student of Exercise Science

“I chose UQ to complete my Bachelor of Applied Science - Exercise Science (now know as the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Sciences), as it is highly respected as a leader in education and the UQ School of Human Movement Studies is well know for its first class facilities.

What I enjoy most about studying with the School of Human Movement Studies is the close relationships I have formed within the school and the approachability of all staff members both in and out of class time.

Doing my honours with the School of Human Movement Studies has given me the opportunity to work closely with academic staff and acquire new research and clinical skills.

These experiences at UQ have provided me with the best opportunity and confidence to start my career as an Exercise Scientist.”

April Strickland

"I made the decision to enter the School of Human Movement Studies based upon my enthusiasm and passion for health and fitness. This passion allowed me to obtain one of my greatest achievements of receiving class I honours with my degree of Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement Studies –Exercise Science).

The comprehensive course information, knowledgeable lecturers, and practical experience in the field allowed me to learn far more quickly than I could have ever anticipated.

UQ’s reputation is world class and I know my qualifications gained will be well respected no matter wherever I may travel. I now work closely helping people make healthier lifestyle choices through wellness programs at Brisbane City Council.

My future plans are to come back to UQ to conduct research and obtain a PhD within the field of human movement studies."

Jessica Lee

"Completing my PhD through HMS has been an invaluable experience.

My advisors and other academic staff within the School provided excellent support including encouragement to present and publish my work both nationally and internationally. I also had the opportunity to make connections with other researchers within Australia and overseas.

The School of HMS offers outstanding facilities for postgraduate students. To complement the academic benefits, the School has a large and friendly postgraduate student group. I would highly recommend the School of HMS as an ideal place for research higher degree students."
