Dietetics
Overview
Dietitians apply the art and science of human nutrition to help people understand food and health relationships and make dietary choices to get the most out of their lifestyle, and to maintain and promote health, and prevent and treat illness and disease. Dietitians use their skills and knowledge to modify diets to treat medical conditions and to advise the general public about eating for health. They work in patient care, community nutrition and public health, food science and management, consultancy, private practice, food industry, research and training and other broader fields.
This program in designed for students with a background in nutrition, public health nutrition, biochemistry, physiology and statistics.

Entry Requirements
Entry requirements, program rules & course lists - MDietSt
Prior approved studies must include:
#2 of public health nutrition at 2000 level or higher. From 2010 the required course is NUTR3012
#2 of nutrition science at 2000 level or higher. From 2010 the required course is NUTR2201
#4 of systems physiology at 2000 level or higher or equivalent. This means that there needs to be a 4 semester sequence in anatomy/physiology. There are several pathways to the second level courses. Examples of the second level courses are BIOM2012 and HMST2073
#4 of biochemistry at 2000 level or higher or equivalent. This means there needs to be a 4 semester sequence of chemistry/biochemistry. From 2010 the courses are CHEM1090/1030, CHEM1020, BIOC2000, BIOL3230.
#2 of research methods, including statistics. An example of an appropriate course is PUBH2007
#2 of behavioural sciences. An example of an appropriate course is PSYC1030.
and
#2 of food sciences of commodities.The required course is FOOD3006
Note: Some of the courses specified have prerequisites or corequisites and that they must also be completed or information supplied demonstrating how the content of these courses have been met.
Applications for international students will only be considered for 2010 and beyond.
Applications should be lodged through UQ International, The University of Queensland.
To commence study in semester 1 - October 31 of the previous year.
