Blues awards for UQ HMNS sporting stars

Four students from the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences were recognised for their outstanding sporting achievements at the 2015 UQ Blues Awards Dinner last Friday, 6 November.

Congratulations to Dane Bird-Smith (athletics), Holly Ferling (Cricket), Adam Korczyk (Rugby Union) and Max Whiteoak (Athletics) who were among nine UQ students to be awarded a prestigious university Blue award.

Head of School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences, Professor Andrew Cresswell presented the awards on the night and said he could not be more pleased for the four award recipients.

"To be awarded a University Blue is such an amazing accomplishment and is one of the highest accolades a University athlete can receive," Professor Cresswell said.

"As a School we are so proud of what these students have achieved, both in their sport and in their studies."

The Blues Awards have a long tradition at UQ Sport and The University of Queensland having been awarded at UQ since 1912 to sportsmen and sportswomen in recognition of their outstanding sporting achievements and for enhancing the reputation of university sport.

The Blues Awards Dinner is named after its distinguishing award, the University Blue - a tradition honoured at many universities throughout Australia and the UK.

This year's awards dinner was held at the Customs House, Brisbane and was attended by special guest, Alan Jones AO.
