Academic Titles for Externally Funded Health Professionals

The University of Queensland has pleasure in inviting health professionals who contribute significantly to its teaching and/or research activities and who are not paid directly or indirectly by the University to apply for an academic title. Appointments are offered for a period of three years.

You can apply for an academic title by completing the application form and providing a detailed Curriculum Vitae including, where relevant, a list of publications. The application form and Curriculum Vitae will need to address three criterion: teaching (clinical undergraduate and postgraduate teaching), research and administration/service (University, professional, workplace). Applications should be prepared in conjunction with the guidelines to academic levels for externally funded health professionals. This shall ensure that the criteria used to assess the academic level of the appointee are met. The University offers a number of services and functions to academic title-holders. These will be outlined in the booklet forwarded with the offer of appointment.

All applications are governed by The University of Queensland policy Academic Titles for Externally Funded Health Professionals: Policy 5.20.5.

Applications will be assessed by the respective Head of Division and Head of the School of Human Movement Studies and a recommendation as to the appropriate level will be made to the Executive Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences.

Applications for Associate Professor appointments will be asked to attend interviews as part of the appointment process. Senate approves selection committees for professorial appointments. Senate must refer recommendations for professorial appointments to the Vice-Chancellor, in the first instance, for approval.

Allied health professionals holding academic titles are eligible to apply for promotion in the final year of their three year appointment. An application is reviewed by the Head of School and the Executive Dean, and if supported, application is made through the normal University promotions process in accordance with criteria applying to University employed staff. Clinical educators are encouraged to seek further advice from the Head of Division and Head of School if they are interested in seeking promotion.
